Due to unreliable rains in the three counties, farmers face challenges such as poor rains and also seeds, we have continued to provide seeds to needy families and hope that soon we will be able to address water concerns.
One of the most sustainable ways in which we can support our counties is to ensure that the youth are able to access highschool education which is still out of reach for many families in the South Eastern Counties of Kenya. During the food and seed drives many parents expressed this as a major need. We have therefore started a school fund, we currently have 8 Students and 30 others on the waiting list. We hope to grow this program. We have also partnered with the H.E.L.B to ensure that after high school our Mbaitu inc. sponsored students can access University education which will enable them to break the vicious cycle of poverty.
When we went to distribute seeds and food in Mtito andei, the volunteer team was very gracious to take some to the sick and elderly, one of them was an elderly father who lived alone in a box house. After the food drive our board agreed to build a home for him which we did after the railway donated to him a piece of land. After construction we also did groceries and bought furniture for his new home, a water tank and a few chickens to enable him to make a living. Below kindly find some of the pictures from this project.
One of the churches that hosted our food drive suffered loss when the roof of the already old church was carried away during a storm. the board again agreed to build a church. The congregation assisted as much as they could with the labor and provided the water and resources available to them, we then supported where they were not able. The congregation was able to move from worshiping under a tree to worshiping in their new church. They also went to host a second and third food drive under their Pastor Festus Kemuti.
We also encountered Mutisya who was bringing his grand mom to the food drive. We worked with him to get tests in different hospitals for a tumor that he has, it was difficult to get surgery for him because of the pandemic, we however hope that we will be able to pursue this further.
